Wish list for the babies’ home!

We’ve just had an email from the team at the babies home and we thought we’d pass this on. If you have any way of helping out with any of these, please leave a comment below or contact us. Thanks!

  1. We will soon be needing a new heavy-duty tumble drier – our clothes and nappies are sun dried and then placed into the tumble drier for a short cycle before taking the clothes out for folding and packing away.  The one we have is slow and gets used very regularly.
  2. Our current stove is old and does not have the capacity to cook all the needed meals. We currently have a four plate Monarch stove with cast iron elements and also use a two plate cooker also with the flat cast iron element plates.  We are investigating “Solar Cookers” and if we feel this is the way we go we would need to fence off an area where the cookers can be positioned for optimum sunlight, and then to source suitable cooking pots with lids to suit.
  3. A messenger’s bicycle which can be used for small errands and daily purchases of fresh bread.
  4. Yard-worker’s protective clothing / work-suit

We also have a more detailed list of needs here, for our babies home, childrens homes and other ministries.

Baby Rachel arrives at Isaiah’s

Baby Rachel arrived yesterday – you will not believe she is 6 months old but looks the size of a newborn baby.  She was an average weight baby at birth but her mother passed away some days after and she has not received sufficient feeding.  Her father is also very sick and is unable to care for her.  It is said she is the 9th child in the family but not sure where the other children are or who is caring for them – more details in time.  Just thought I would share these pictures with you as she is very precious and needs our prayers.

Director of Our Neighbours

Our Neighbours Ministry

Our Neighbours Ministry is an interdenominational Christian non-profit organisation reaching out to the poorest of the poor in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. We seek to show God’s love to our neighbours.

There are four key areas of Our Neighbours Ministry, being:

  • Isaiah’s Umuzi Wothando (Isaiah’s Homes of Love) where we have a babies home for abandoned babies where they are lovingly cared for and we assist to facilitate fostering and adoption, and ‘forever homes’ where abandoned and orphaned children are cared for in a family environment;
  • Our Neighbours; where support, assistance and empowerment is given to individuals and families who are living in terribly difficult and disadvantaged circumstances;
  • North End Home; where children who were previously living on the streets are cared for in a family environment, where counselling, rehabilitation, and assistance with family/community reunification is provided; and
  • Lighthouse Christian School; a school for children who have missed out on many years of schooling, where they are provided with quality education and training in life skills, social development, and health education.

All about ‘Our Neighbours’

We are currently building this website (June 2010) so we appreciate your patience in the meantime!

‘Our Neighbours’ is the name of a variety of ministries of Bulawayo Baptist Church. One of these ministries is Isaiah’s Umuzi Wothando.

Isaiah’s Umuzi Wothando (Isaiah’s Home of Love) is a project established in March 2004 to assist abandoned babies in Bulawayo Zimbabwe, and the surrounding areas. It is a faith-based community initiative, administered by the Bulawayo Baptist Church. Our vision is to see abandoned babies being integrated into loving families and communities, to the glory of God.
